22 platforms researched, full concept in two weeks

I help teams drive digital concepts from idea to product, through empathy, research and data.
For nearly two decades, I've worked across product, brand and emerging technology, helping teams get mission-critical products off the ground quickly.
At the RCMP, as the first UX hire in the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, I designed task-critical tools for officers who needed answers off grid and under pressure. At EA Sports FC, I owned test strategy across eight platforms. At PrecisionOS, as UX product designer and product owner, I sat with surgical residents in testing and carried what they showed us into VR training, a companion app and a website.
I'm happiest where research meets the build, with direct access to decision-makers, the authority and time to shape the product, and a team that treats design as a core part of building.
More about meSix habits that show up in every project, whatever the setting.
Requests often arrive as an answer: an image refresh, a feature, an MVP date. I start by writing the brief or the delivery timeline, so every assumption and question is out in the open before anyone designs.

Ride-alongs, time in a police cruiser, sitting with dispatchers on busy days, resident interviews and onboarding calls. Support calls and customer service are research too, and some of my best projects started there.

How Might We sessions, affinity maps, personas, journey maps and card sorts. I bring developers, product and leadership into the room to agree the flow together, which saves a great deal of back and forth later.

I sketch wireflows on paper and map every page before any of it is styled, building on the design system that already exists. When the screens drift, I'm happy to call a reset and go back to the flow.

Rounds of moderated testing with real users, scored by task completion so the team can agree on what we saw, with open questions at the end. Some of the most useful findings had nothing to do with the interface.

As designer and product owner, I write acceptance criteria, plan testing with QA, look after the backlog and set up event tracking, then keep listening once it's in people's hands.

April is a superstar UX designer who has a really strong grasp of improving the quality of user interfaces and software experience. Really top notch, well thought out designs. She is responsive and easy going, meshes well in any team. Absolute pleasure to work with, I wouldn’t hesitate to work with her again.
She became an integral part of our workflow, collaborating seamlessly across QV, Development, Production and Design. She has a natural ability to rally the troops and build alignment across different disciplines to drive key objectives forward.
Her attention to detail and multiple concept iterations ensured the final design met technical requirements and resonated with FISOC’s values. Her creativity and work ethic enhanced FISOC’s visibility, fostering pride and unity among employees.
